No Salus Chapter This Week |

Dr. Peter Salus asked me to post this message to you all: Change in Plan
I've been working on Chapter 12, and I'm not at all
happy with it. As a result, I'm going to rethink
the next portion of the Table of Contents. The
direct consequence of this will be that there will be
no chapter posted on 9 June 2005. Chapter 12 (whatever
it turns out to be) will go up on 15 or 16 June (though
I fear the spirit of James Joyce if I actually post on
June 16).
Peter H. Salus So, tune in again next week, when
the improved Chapter 12 will be ready for you on June 16.

Much like the code itself, ya do what ya gotta do to make it right.

Whenever I have someone working for me I always tell them "take your time
and do it right". Solves all sorts of long term problems.

If only I knew who that was. Anyone care to explain the reference?[ Reply to This | # ]

So we can rant on about Apple moving to Intel, and SCO wondering what is going
on, since they thought they were going to be the next big Unix on Intel.[ Reply to This | # ]

Hey, that will be my 15th anniversary! Post freely, and ignore
Joyce.
(Digression: I was afflicted with Joyce in high school. He stated
(in Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) the theory that real art
should not cause any reaction whatsoever on the part of the viewer. The result
of his theory was a book that caused no reaction on the part of the reader, and
was therefore insanely boring. The Salus stuff is much more interesting
- it could not be otherwise ;-)

FOSS is littered with the corpses of abandoned projects. Don't be that guy. [ Reply to This | # ]

In true FOSS tradition, it is far better to wait until it is as nearly correct
as can reasonably be achieved, rather than do a M$ and let the customers
find all the bugs. A bit like the Debian philospohy. I am sure we can all wait
patiently for the next interesting installment until it is really ready for
public viewing. But I am really looking forward to it, the previous chapters
have been very enlightening. It has filled in the reasons why some of the
historical things happened, whereas at the time all most of us saw were the end
results, or lack of in some cases. [ Reply to This | # ]
