What We Need Is a Cartoon - of PJ
Sunday, May 15 2005 @ 02:41 PM EDT

What we need is a good laugh, and Sunday is a good day for the comics. I laughed at General Protection Fault's strip today on a Linux version of Monopoly.

UserFriendly made me laugh today too. Here's more from UserFriendly that I enjoyed too, some from the Australian collection:

http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20050508
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20050507
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20050506
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20050503

If you know of any others, do share. I don't want to think today, don't want to work, don't want to worry, don't want to run for my life, don't want to strategize. Just want to laugh. And for those of you nagging and nagging me to put up a picture . . .

UserFriendly's J.D. "Illiad" Frazer presents us with a gift, a cartoon, PJ and a boat I name the "Ship of Fools' Litigation":

This is a joke but it may make you cringe PJ. Seriously check it out. Someone on
Slashdot unkindly described the guy on the right as Skrek minus the green.

I think the cartoon PJ should have been dangling a plug on a chain from her raise hand....

After all she's pulling the plug on SCO's little scam...

Such a good formula for laughter
Authored by: greyhat on Sunday, May 15 2005 @ 04:11 PM EDT
In 4 easy steps:

1. Tell a large community you're going to do something terrible and sleazy and
they can't stop you. Use lots of "fightin' words" whenever possible.
2. Make the community soooo eager to see you fail.
3. Give them their wish.
4. Repeat step 3 until the laughter kills us all, or the wishes are all
granted.

It feels good to climb up out of the mud for a little while and remember how
funny all this is from the right perspective :)

What We Need Is a Song
Authored by: ssavitzky on Sunday, May 15 2005 @ 04:16 PM EDT
I immediately thought of a couple of lines from "Casey Jones" by the Grateful Dead:
Trouble ahead, lady in red
Take my advice you'd be better off dead...

More work than my poor, befuzzled brain can handle at the moment, since you'd have to change Casey from the engine driver to the Lady in Red, but...

What We Need Is a POSTER!
Authored by: TheBlueSkyRanger on Sunday, May 15 2005 @ 04:42 PM EDT
Hey, everybody!

Ms. Jones, you have a real opportunity here. I collect movie posters and swap
them out of their frames as befits my mood etc. I would love a movie poster
size image of this to put on permanent display.

The funds could go in an account to buy SCO. Does THAT thought make you smile?
It does me. Sell three posters for $20 each, and in a few months, you won't
even have to finance to own SCO. "Darl, you've been massaging my feet for
the past two hours, and I still don't hear you singing!"

The cartoon forgot...
Authored by: RedBarchetta on Sunday, May 15 2005 @ 05:13 PM EDT
... to show Ralph, Darl, Chris and Blake on a liferaft, paddling away furiously,
while the ship passengers still meander on the deck of the sinking ship,
wondering where to go.

Then there's the quartet of Didio, Enderle, O'Gara, Lyons... playing their songs
to a rapidly disappearing audience.

Thanks, Iliad, and thank you PJ. Very good timing re: needing a laugh. I always used to read "Peanuts" (Charlie Brown and Snoopy) on Sundays. Nowdays I read Groklaw; go figure. Here's a few other laugh sites:

OT Question on JOCR/GOCR
Authored by: NastyGuns on Sunday, May 15 2005 @ 08:13 PM EDT

This is a question for anyone that uses JOCR/GOCR. I am able to convert to the .pnm file fine. However, whenever I try to convert from .pnm to .txt file, I keep getting the following error:

ERROR pnm.c L277: unexpected char

I've tried converting from pdf to pnm 3 times already, but keep coming up with the same problem. Anyone able to help point me in the right direction of how to correct it? I've also been unsuccessful in finding anything.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Love that red dress
Authored by: talexb on Sunday, May 15 2005 @ 10:13 PM EDT
Hi PJ,

Every morning I sit at my dining room table and read my paper's front section
cover to cover (The Globe and Mail, in Toronto), then I read the funny papers,
and finally I read my wife our horoscopes (mine for Aries and Taurus, hers for
Scorpio and Sagittarius -- we're both near the cusp). So, seeing links to funny
papers and a neat cartoon of you wearing your red dress made me smile.

You've had quite a week -- me too: my wife starts a job tomorrow after being at
home for the last two years, taking care of her boys. They're old enough to fend
for themselves, and I think she's feeling the wrench of not being needed anymore
(of course she's still needed -- she just feels that way).

I'm looking forward to watching the leaky ship SCO go down .. it's gonna happen.
Cheers!

Time for a good stiff drink!
Authored by: darkonc on Sunday, May 15 2005 @ 10:14 PM EDT
I don't do the alcohol thing, so my current favorite is the following:

In a one-pint mug put:
3 tablespoons of Realemon concentrate
one (very) heaping tablespoon of demerera sugar (or any other dark brown sugar)
one litre of cold water

Mix well, sit back and enjoy.

If I knew where to send a good massage therapist, I would. You definitely deserve some top-level pampering and some relaxing down time. I'm guessing that this week has been an especially stressful one

You've got a hundred thousand geeks out here who care the world for you. If you need anything, just ask, and we'll see what we can do.

Seeing as people are looking for humor
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, May 16 2005 @ 12:41 AM EDT
I apologize for anybody who read this when I posted about it before, but if
you're looking for humor, I suggest you check out the startling progress in
Wallace v FSF (you couldn't make this stuff up):

Remember the fun and wacky Wallace v FSF lawsuit, in which he alleges the GPL
violates the Clayton Act.

Wallace has now filed two motions:

Docket 5 - Motion To Amend Complaint - in which Wallace discovers that he is the
plaintiff not the defendant

Docket 6 - Second Motion To Amend Complaint - in which Wallace finally discovers
in which state the FSF is located, and in which Wallace also discovers in which
county he *himself* lives

Quatermass
IANAL IMHO etc

I'm waiting to see if Maureen writes this up as "proving" that
Wallace
has the FSF on the ropes

investigative posts ruled the day and believe that posts like this will do more
to hurt Groklaw then help it.
