I don't know who the Search Terms Approver will be, but I expect that it will
not be the Prime Minister, whoever that happens to be from time to time.
It will be interesting to see whether the list of proscribed terms will be
published; if so I forecast that the execrable perverts who wish to seek out
these hideous images will rapidly devise an argot of their own to enable their
traffic. We shall drive the metadata underground. Come to think of it, the
list will *have* to be created and distributed, if only to the search providers
(and they are many) to achieve consistency. There's no chance that it won't be
leaked.
Make no mistake, I understand the PM's desire to stamp out the traffic; after
all, it is flat out illegal to possess a copy of these images in the UK [1] and
so from a law enforcement point of view a search provider must look awfully like
an accessory to a crime.
[1] see Part 5, sections 63 to 67 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act
2008, and Section 62 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (the latter is aimed
explicitly at non-photographic images).
