I bought all the parts for a new machine at Canada Computers, intending to
assemble it myself. They offered to build it, test it and guarantee it for a
year for an extra $50. Too good an offer to turn down, and the machine works

Actually, build yourself IS difficult ...
My home system is still a bit unstable (it's a lot better than it was). I'm
pretty certain the cause is stray signals from power cables, but tying up cables
out of the way isn't easy when there's not enough cable to move it away from
sensitive components ...
That apart, yes, putting stuff together is easy, but it's no harder than it's
ever been - I think the first system I built had a Cyrix 686 chip (I know I paid
£100 per chip for two 32Mb simms...) and £200 for a 6GB drive!
It's got neither harder nor easier since then ...
