Not a latch, signs on the gate
Authored by: Dastardly on Friday, July 12 2013 @ 02:36 PM EDT
Still the wrong analogy. It is a gate with a bunch of signs on it. The signs
are very difficult to find, but if you know where to look many have an e-mail
address on them, but many are blank. ROT13 or other encryption just makes the
signs with an e-mail address on them harder to find.

The proper implementation that does not reveal e-mails is very simple though.
Store the e-mail address on the CLIENT and send it to the server. Don't
obfuscate anything (other than encrypt in transit, if worried about sniffers).
Then, in order to get the exposed information you have to already have the
exposed information which means nothing is exposed that the requester does not
already know.
