Nonsense
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, July 02 2013 @ 06:29 PM EDT
This description of the incident sounds like the guy was nothing but a punk:
http://arstechnica.com/apple/2011/01/goatse-security-trolls-were-after-max-lols-
in-att-ipad-hack/

He had to submit a fake ID number to get the email address returned. No honest
and sane person can pretend that they had no idea that they were getting info
without permission.

And he didn't discover a hole and report it to AT&T, he discovered a whole
and tried to get money out of it by exploiting the ill-gotten information at the
expense of customers. HE is the guy AT&T failed to protect people from.
Only after he was caught did all of these heroic security pro excuses come
about.

I believe AT&T was WORRIED about there Apple contract
rather than customers goodwill, it's like if you want to claim
insurance you have to report it to the police first... Only
that no one double check AT&T story.

Is there a federal trespassing law?
Authored by: artp on Wednesday, July 03 2013 @ 10:30 PM EDT
Because if there isn't, then your argument is false,
depending on the laws of the state where the trespass
occurred.

You also mixed up trespass on real property with trespass on
digital property, which are both different from chemical
trespass.

I have no need to post my property in order to charge you
with trespassing (in Iowa). The fine with court costs was
$90 last time I have knowledge of. I have no need for
fences. When you leave your property, and any public
property that you may be on, then you are responsible to
know where you are, and to obtain permission to be there
before entering.

Despite that, monitoring trespassing is a huge time-waster
for property owners. Because every jailhouse lawyer in the
state "knows" that they have a God-given right to go
wherever they want to go, whenever they want to go there,
and take anything they please. Because "God put it there".

Auernheimer isn't even close to being in the same league as
some of the folks I run into on my property.
