Administration, Congress Intensify Opposition To Global Generic Drug Industry
Authored by: red floyd on Saturday, June 29 2013 @ 02:02 AM EDT
To heck with the pharmas. And believe me, I wanted to say something stronger.

My late wife suffered from ALS. The only drug at the time was Rilutek (by
Sanofi-Aventis). It cost $500/month -- MINIMUM. And that's with Medicare.
About 6 months before she died, another drug -- Nuedexta (Avanir
pharmaceuticals) became available for some of the other effects of the disease.
$800/month. Again with Medicare.

By the way, the latter drug is essentially cough syrup mixed with another drug
(Dextromethorphan and Quinidine). So they're charging $800/month for cough
syrup.

To heck with Big Pharma.

We need more generic drugs, not less

We have been ripped off for far too long by certain large companies, who as well as overcharging the NHS in the UK, and just about everyone in the US, have wilfuly obstructed the use of certain beneficial drugs, which they claim don't work, because they are not very profitable. People suffer and die because of that.

Excess profit should never be allowed to be made at the expense of people's lives and health. It is no better than the tobacco companies (and drug pushers, no tangible difference) profiting from people's addiction, while ruining their health.

If India can solve the medicinal needs of the west, I say let them do it.

Administration, Congress Intensify Opposition To Global Generic Drug Industry

They had a few stern words to the New Zealand government about
the Public Health drug buying agency Pharmac taking generics
instead of the high ticket price US product. When it was explained
that Pharmac was simply buying on the open market with a
drug performance specification, the US went away to devise a
method to close down the open market ...

Nice Freudian slip

To quote Rep. Fred Upton:

I first learned of this issue just a few short weeks ago from Pfizer, my largest employer in my district
I would have thought his largest employer was the voting public.
