jbb asks "What do you suggest as an alternative?" to
strong encryption. Sorry. I don't have any alternative

But my suggestion is to NOT have what could literally
be a false sense of security when using strong encryption.

Send your messages with the thought in mind that if
someone should take a sufficient interest, or if advances
in quantum computing pan out, your messages could be read.

Also ... has anyone ever won in the long run, by betting
AGAINST technological advances? If the answer is 'no',
then what makes you think this situation will be any
different?
