I don't know much about chromebooks or the chrome operating system. My
understanding is that it uses the Linux kernel, as do most GNU distros.
The common practice of referring to a GNU/Linux system as simply
"Linux" has led, IMO, to considerable confusion. GNU is the operating
system. Much of what we know and love about our GNU/Linux systems comes from
GNU. But when we call it Linux, it leads to the impression that everything that
has a Linux kernel is basically the same thing. It isn't.
I believe that we would all do well to refer to GNU/Linux by its proper name,
rather than shorten it (incorrectly) to "Linux".
