While I agree that Microsoft shouldn't be trusted, there is another way for
those spammers to 'have' your email address. Spammers send their dross to vast
numbers of potential email addresses by putting automatically-generated strings
ahead of the "[at]h**mail.com." They do it for other mail providers
too, but H0tmail's size (or is it its poor filtering?) makes it a popular
target. A modern server with a fast connection could easily send out billions
of auto-generated emails per day; I imagine a fair-sized botnet could spam, for
example, every possible address with less than 15 characters before the 'at' a
couple of times a week, and as long as they vary the content there'd be no easy
way to filter them out.
As to the type of spam you're getting, speaking as a male who's rather fond of
the other 52% of the population, I consider pushers of pr0n to be a very low
kind of scum so it's no surprise to me that they make the most use of the worst
spamming tactics.
I'm not saying Microsoft would be free of blame here, even if they haven't sold
your address, since their software is known for its propensity to be recruited
into botnets - another reason to avoid it where you can.
