Mafia bosses would have the wisdom to settle out of court by a shootout or a
covert assassination, because their entire organization is fully aware that they
are operating outside of the law. IV clearly know that their shady business is
not fit for public exposure, and they have been running a tight ship with few
leaks over the years, but their low level henchmen like Lodsys now seem to take
considerably less care in hiding their shady dealings. Exposure is bad for IV,
but good for the world. Their ship is running out of ocean.

Then you've never actually had any dealings with the mafia,
by the sound of it :-)

They think they have the right to rob people, and they dispute how to share the profits in court.
