That's part of the problem:

Any patent granted by the USPTO is - by Law - legitamit: until reversed by Law.

Unfortunately:

The assumption has proven very false!

But the USPTO - which is tasked with properly vetting the applications so only valid patents are granted: granted it! I reasonably relied on the patent grant from the USPTO!
