patent on putting URL in an email - Echo Golf
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, June 20 2013 @ 12:22 AM EDT
So basically it's on a par with sending an e-mail as follows :

From: ambassador-fox@example.info
To: wget-daemon@example.info
Subject: [URL of document to be retrieved]
Body: Fwd: anan-7@example.info

Lima Alfa Mike Echo !

P.S. The "Fwd:" directive in the body of the e-mail tells the daemon
where to send the retrieved document (e.g. a treaty).

patent on putting URL in an email

You're right. I've adjusted the language to make
it precise. I hope. Take a look, please.

Isn't that actually a patent on drive-by downloads?

Yes, embedded images, but also embedded just about anything, really...

Whre's the email server?

It's not about email. Looks like it is a web server + browser client to me, but in a more restricted form. Nothing new there.

Bogo.

Even if the patent is valid, most people do not infringe
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, June 21 2013 @ 03:38 PM EDT
Claim 1 says a computer that sends a message AND a computer that receives a
message. Since most people do not send a message to themselves, then most people
do not infringe, as any one person is only doing part of what is claimed at any
one time.

And someone like Motorola who makes devices that can do either the sending or
receiving, but don't necessarily send to the sending device, only practice part
of claim 1 at any particular time as well. So the most they could be foud to be
doing is inducing others to infringe, but since most folks only send or receive
any particular message, then they don't infringe, so Motorola can't be found to
have induced anyone to infringe.
