No regulation, just greed

It's a question of abusing power over others, by criminal negligence in what
should be one of their absolute top priorities. People running a company that
sells a product to consumers should be required to stay informed on whether
their product is toxic, addictive or otherwise harmful. If they don't, I think
sanctions, even imprisonments, is perfectly in order.

If someone believes the Earth is flat, that could be considered a personal
choice. A stupid and ignorant choice, but personal, and arguably of the kind
that US legislators would go out of their way to protect. However, if that
person is a teacher and insists on passing the incorrect information on to
schoolchildren, or a member of the school board who forbids the teaching of the
scientifically accepted roundness of the Earth, it is a different matter. Then
it is no longer a personal choice, but deceit and abuse of power, and that
deserves punishment.
