Fujitsu demonstrated a GPS gadget built into a walking stick and I have seen in
the past ads for walking sticks with built in compasses, small cameras etc.
There was a demo of a closely related idea on Youtube in 2010. Isn't combining
bits existing technology in this way somewhat obvious for those who want it and

Actually, no. Googles patent is considerably more complicated than a camera
adaptor. Given that many, much less clever walking stick designs have been
patented, I don't see an issue here. It certainly qualifies as an improvement of

Just because something is new does not mean it deserves a patent. Just because
somebody is the first to have to solve a problem, does not give them any right
to a monopoly on the most obvious solution to it.
The patent office is lazy and out of control.
