If I remember the numbers correctly, I believe your risk from background
radiation at normal flying altitude is greater than that from the machine. If
it is really a cancer risk, the smart thing to do is use ground transportation.
Not as convenient, I grant you, but perfectly doable. If I remember
correctly, Issac Asimov never flew, and I believe one football commentator had
an RV he used to go to all the games he worked at. One just has to have the
gumption to overcome the anti-ludite attitude.
