Hmmmmm....

IF (big if) the telcos were obliged to supply the data to the government (at
government expense!) on offline media such as Blu-Ray, it wouldn't be too bad.

If government has a need, the data is there to be searched. If it's offline,
it's not available for casual access.

I can understand people being sensitive, but if it's done this way, it's not TOO
bad. That said, I agree with many people here - what real use is this data?
After all, didn't they say that six degrees of separation connect you to anyone
in the world? I have an awful lot of politicians who are "friends of a
friend" - for example Mrs Currie (the other one) is a friend of my mum, my
Russian teacher was in with Gorbachev's friends and colleagues in the Duma, my
oldest friend's husband was/is an advisor to governments in the Middle East ...

Am I unusual in having all those contacts? I doubt it.

Cheers,
Wol
