Alright, my 13 month old phone was sold with GB 2.3.6.
I now have the maker's ICS 4.0.3. The maker has said that
he will not be releasing any further upgrades to this machine.
Sure there are communities of crazed hackers out there
releasing all manner of wierdware which runs, mostly, on it,
but without any support, rather discouragement, by the maker
and the telcos. Having to install third party apps to get the same
level of performance as on my iOS device is fragmentation to me.
eg. installing a Root File Browser in order to take advantage
of its movie playing capability ...
I could make a chart showing features abandoned on older
models and spotty support for new features on new devices,
but there are so many makers, all having a different matrix
of who supports what ...
