Universal algorithm is useless without it's inputs
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, June 13 2013 @ 09:51 AM EDT

To help explain by putting that in the context of math.

    I = P r t
Everybody reading this, please use that formula.

Oh... most of you can't? It's useless because it's meaningless?

Ahh... some of you can... because it's useful. Because you want to be able to calculate your interest from a simple loan and you have the inputs to make the formula work.

In Mr. Quinn's opinion - those of you that have the inputs to make the formula work because you have a simple loan qualify for a patent on performing the calculation above.

Did the PTAB just kill software patents?

Picture a water mill. It cannot accomplish anything without flowing water. Can
you patent the stream?

c/software/petrol/
Authored by: Wol on Thursday, June 13 2013 @ 12:55 PM EDT
It is undeniable that the presence of a tank of petrol turns a dumb lump of
metal that is incapable of accomplishing anything into a machine that is
specifically useable for the intended purpose. In order to grasp this
unassailable reality Gene Quinn should remove all fluids from his automobile. He
should then attempt to accomplish any task. He will then conclusively prove to
himself that without fuel the car ceases to be able to provide any
functionality; even functionality of a general purpose transportation device,
whatever that may be.

Cheers,
Wol
