Now there is an intriguing idea.....

Maybe just a conspiracy theory, but some of these invariably turn out to be real. We know two things, Gates hated UNIX from way back, and M$ funded the SCOundrels, which indirectly helped them to sue IBM.

Suppose that Gates expected IBM to prevail, and obliterate SCO, and UNIX with it, while seriously damaging Linux along the way......

Not a shred of evidence right now, but it would make sense.

No, they learned

They finally figured out that the One OS game would make them look like a
monopoly, and that some folks found that annoying, so they decided that keeping
an insignificant bit player like Apple around was good PR.

Now the bit player has stolen the scene, but poor M$ has to keep playing its
part of "supporting" the industry. However, since the bit player now
has many of the same enemies, M$ has been learning how to piggyback and spin it
as "industry wide support".

If they think that Word Perfect, Netscape and Java are competitors to their
operating system, their operating system can't be up to much!

Software Patents: It's the disclosed functions in the patent, stupid!
