Well, MS have been using Apple as someone to point to and say: "Look, we're
not a monopoly" for so many years...

That ought to turn off more than a few of their users who
will turn to Android for their next device. Bing it on!

For many years we have been misled to think that Microsoft and Apple were fiercely competitive with each other. This is not true.
Never was really true but Apple has always tried to pretend otherwise. Back 1997 (Jobs was just back and had become CEO) Microsoft invested $150 million into Apple that effective made them partners. It also did not help that Apple lost it's lawsuit against Microsoft/HP in 1994. But Apple was already in very bad shape by the early 1990's with Microsoft still climbing.

You might not have been born yet, but there once was a time when that was very
true. No misleading.

You have to go way back in the aeons of time. To a previous millennium long ago
forgotten and swept away in the sands of time. Back before the Web. Before
Gopher. Before dial-up internet. Even before there was AOL. So far back in
the dawn of history to a time when there was . . . CompuServe.

The passion was probably at least as great as that between Android and iOS
today.
