Is this not a political matter?

There, there. You are making a political matter out of something which is not.
Without the bickering and the distrust, and without the opposition on principle
rather than the factual issues ("nothing good can come out of this
administration" rather than "I don't like this proposal
because..."), this is just reporting of current events on a very relevant
topic. As you surely realize, there's quite a lot that Groklaw wouldn't be able
to cover if any kind of report on proposed legislation would be considered
politics.

Well, the White House isn't necessarily truthful! (but we do celebrate our hopes)

And, the crippling of innovation, which is what trolling does, is quite real,
whether it's Microsoft-funded PAEs, **AA ripoff artists, or independent startups
like Prenda.

If the whitehouse follows through with its promises, we will be in better shape.
I, for one, am glad they finally noticed. Will they return more discretion to
the patent examiners to turn down applications? Appoint someone with real talent
and clout to run the USPTO? Open questions -- but everywhere I have been or
seen in detail, interference with the real job from an ignorant management has
been a real problem.

this is definitely not a political matter

The patent troll situation is damaging our economy through
impaired innovation, added legal overhead costs, and and
industrial paralysis that the person in the oval office is
irrelevant. At this point, whoever would feel the pressure
to take some action, especially when our economy is
currently so precarious.

Now, granted, the way partisanship has become so vitriolic
in our nation, politics will play a role, but the party in
the minority is also irrelevant as to what will happen. No
matter what the president says (no matter what party that
president), the minority party will claim that his or her
proposed solutions will destroy the country.

I may not care for this Administration but if they can help fix this issue they
will have my support for this issue.
