It would be a bit less ridiculous if they gave a patent on
*an* over the network backup system. Where they really
knocked it out of the park is in granting a patent on all
possible over the network backup systems...

As I have mentioned here before, I used to work on a computer system built by
Collins. This system used a network to connect the various peripherals, such as
disks, tapes, card reader, printer and more. I started working on this system
in 1978, but the technology had been around for about 10 years before that.
This system couldn't back up anything, other than via the network. So, this
gives Collins almost 30 years prior art on that patent.
