You have to remember Microsoft's attitude, which is perhaps best illustrated by
an old Stalin joke.

Stalin had his henchman introduce a bill into the Supreme Soviet. The hench
returned and reported that there was widespread resistance. The left wing, he
said, had finally been persuaded but the right wing had to be cowed by threats.
He further suggested that Stalin "crack down" on the right wing.

No, Stalin said, crack down on the left wing. "I can't always persuade, but
I can always terrorize."

Microsoft salesmen can't always persuade, but they believe they can always lead
by grasping throats tightly enough.
