That article is slightly old. The American Life segment ran last weekend and the
podcast is available here. If you have time, you might want to check it out. (I
didn't like the GeekWire article, which was what wound up in the NewsPick.)
The radio show has a introductory segment about a patent troll going
after podcasters, which is obviously resonates with the show, since it's it's
podcasted. The rest of the first half basically repeats a show from two years ago (tra
nscript) largely about Intellectual Ventures and a specific patent (picked
as an example) that they were using in their trolling. The second half was about
what they had learned since. For some reason the GeekWire article barely
mentioned that two of the companies that had been sued decided to fight the
lawsuit and found out that the "inventor" (Chris Crawford) had stolen most of
the technology in the patent from three former co-workers who weren't listed on
the patent, making the patent invalid. (They played a bit of the audio of a
deposition where Chris Crawford disputed the meaning of the "'s" in a document
where he had called an idea something like, "John Doe's idea.") Finally it ends
with them mentioning how patent trolls are suing end users now, but that this is
creating momentum for reform. GeekWire didn't even mention that part.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
