It won't mean the end of Samsing. They are far too big for that.
Their brand
is very valuable. what is inside it (As far a most people are concerned) is
pretty well irrelevant.
Samsung are already selling/trialling a Tizen
phone.

If this works and sells well what is to stop them from gradually
dropping android on favour of Tizen? Nothing, nothing at all.
You might raise
the issue of apps.
IMHO, the majority of users want things like FaceBook,
Twitter and email. Not a lot more. These would be easy to make avaiable on the
phone so they don't need an app store.
Samsung are also releasing a phone
with an Intel CPU rather than an ARM SOC. Ok, the first version is running
Android but there is nothing to stop them from going to WP8 or any other O/S
should they desire. They have their own FAB so they are in the driving seat and
can pretty well go in whatever direction they want and it does not have to be
signposted 'Android'.
We are in interesting times. At the moment, the
picture might be one with Android at the top but it may not be there for long if
the biggest player decides to switch direction.
--- Ubuntu & 'apt-get'
are not the answer to Life, The Universe & Everything which is of course, "42"
or is it 1.618?
