There used to be a search system called Archie back in the
early nineties. It was one of these things between the full
Internet and the "Bulletin Board" days. There was also a
related system called Veronica which did slightly different
things. There was also the download system called Gopher
which was useful for getting stuff from places where you
knew or suspected that it was stored. Gopher was fun to
use. My first Internet access was via a bulletin board at
NZ20$ per MB and the connection speed was 2400 baud! We
though we were made when we could connect with a serial link
of 115k baud! There must be some prior art among that lot!
There is nothing new today, it is only faster etc!
