Not that I can find

If he is, Google can't substantiate. In fairness to Mr. Spafford, we probably should not put such a speculation forth unless there is such substantiation.

Dr. Spafford was the Usenet watchdog
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, June 04 2013 @ 08:17 AM EDT
Many, many moons ago (25-30 years), when I first started reading Usenet
newsgroups, Gene Spafford was the author and/or maintainer of a number of
guidelines and FAQ collections which he posted periodically to the applicable
groups. But when AOL and others allowed the unwashed masses to access those
newsgroups, those masses rebelled against the gentleman's agreements that those
postings represented. Much of that rebellion targeted Dr. Spafford personally,
not caring that he was only the historian, as it were. He soon withdrew from
active participation in Usenet, which only accelerated its descent into
anarchy.
