At this point, I'm pretty sure that Mayor Ford knows what has happened to the
video. He knew where the video was. He told staffers. The staffers were
interviewed by the police. 7 senior staffers have quit or were fired. Mayor
Ford has ordered their email accounts wiped, potentially in violation of freedom
of information requirements.
My guess is that a police officer, an ex-police
officer, or a reliable friend of Mayor Ford has secured and possibly destroyed
the video. Thus, Mayor Ford can be confident when he says that "no video
exists." To further buttress the point, Mayor Ford is trying to make sure no
indirect evidence of the video exists, such as commentary on the staffer's email
accounts.
Unfortunately, the drug dealer in the video is dead. As such, the
video is connected to criminal activity, either directly through the smoking
drugs on video, or through a link to a murder. A very likely scenario, given the
Freedom of Information rules, is that the actual video will never materialize,
but Mayor Ford will fall victim to destruction of evidence charges because he
wiped the staffer's emails.
Remember: Politician's don't get in trouble for
committing crimes. They get in trouble for covering them up. In this case, I
think the cover up will be what kills Mayor Ford.
