I must be thick, but I don't actually get this.
Suppose I make a
movie, and I want to make it available
in return for some consideration such as
pay per view or
whatever. It seems to me DRM would allow to me to do that.
Without DRM, I can't see how else to make it available for
online
viewing.
Of course I understand that I undoubtedly wouldn't be
making
any sales to those who are against DRM, but on the
other hand, some people
would only be too grateful for the
opportunity to watch or download my movie
for an acceptable
price.
If we say there should be no DRM available in
HTML5, then
you have just killed a potential market for me.
Beyond
that, I have recently subscribed to Netflix and I
am really enjoying catching
up on all the films I missed out
on during the past few years. I have lately
seen some
really wonderful films that have given me a new perspective.
AFAIK,
it is DRM that permits me to watch these movies, is
it not?
I know that
FOSS advocates think everything should be free, but I am
sorry - after
investing a great deal of money to create my
film I have no intention of giving
it away for free.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I'm having trouble understanding what's going on when on the one hand
EFF is bleating about DRM in HTML5; and on the other hand SFLC
is saying VP8 Licence Good, nothing to see here.
I know, I know, I'm about to get a dozen lectures on the difference
between patents and DRM. Maybe the song was right,
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose ...
