a possible explanation for SCO's motion

It wouldn't be extortion. Oh, no! That would be a crime.

In all seriousness, what the Trustee would be asking for would be a perfectly
legitimate payment from his lawyers to let them out of a contractual commitment
freely -- even eagerly and greedily -- made with his less sophisticated
predecessors. He has them not just over a barrel, but entangled in litigation.
Moreover, it is litigation that these very lawyers started and designed, but
that he can make them carry on for years to come (counting the inevitable
appeals). This is just a foretaste.

To quote a far cleverer man than I (W. S. Gilbert in Ruddigore),

My good sir, you can't forge your own will!

-- Can't I, though! I like that! I did! Besides, if a man can't forge his own
will, whose will can he forge?
