Shipments versus sales
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, May 24 2013 @ 03:25 PM EDT
Neither Samsung nor Apple has any direct way to count devices actually sold to
the end-user. What they can count is devices sold to their customers and that is
not the end-users. They can only count shipments form them.
So what is your objection?

Microsoft and Windows 8... 100 million licenses sold, to whom? Probably not to
100 million end users. It looks like the OEM have 100 million licenses in their
laps, because the users' usage data doesn't add up.

Shipments versus sales

Samsung has sold that many units, they sold them to the re-
sellers, who in turn sell them to the end user.

Doublespeak vs FUDspeak
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, June 02 2013 @ 02:10 PM EDT
Same difference and just because it's your dearly beloved
Apple, you choose their version over Samsung's of reporting
numbers of devices sold.

First off, Apple sells their products directly through their
own stores and Samsung does not. Therefore they have direct
access to at least some of the numbers of Sold devices vs
Samsung only able to report phones sold via the devices they
sold to retail.

Either way they are all sold and Samsung or Apple is
directly receiving money for the devices sold. But.... it
doesn't follow that all devices considered as "Sell Through"
to end users can be accurately accounted for by either of
them. Because Apple too.... has gone to selling to retail
outlets like Best Buy, Walmart, Carriers, etc, that don't
have to report directly the manufacturers their "Sell
Through" numbers.

It's Apple vs Oranges and each manufacturer (though Apple
isn't a real manufacturer, since they outsource literally
everything). The numbers therefore are "Best Guess"
estimates or each of them would have to claim them as "Sell
Through to consumers" and they can't!!!

So it all boils down to Android Activations and iPhone iOS
carrier activations. That's something Apple won't reveal,
even if they knew them. Google reveals specific device model
activations to Samsung and all manufacturers of Android
devices sold. But even that is misleading on the low side.
Because so many Android devices sold don't use Google
services. Which means.... that those 10 Million Galaxy S4's
are actual sell through to consumers, but still don't
include many none Google Android activations in China alone!

Because unlike Apple (who is down around #5 or #6 in China
smartphone sales), Samsung is the #1 selling smartphone
maker there. Which in no uncertain terms now, is the largest
smartphone market on the Planet!!! :D

To put this into perspective, the Galaxy S3's largest market
right now is in China. A country that doesn't require Google
Services be on any smartphone sold and if Google was able to
claim all Android Sales there, we'd have a much more
accurate picture of actual Galaxy S4 sales, more in line
with Samsung's own numbers! Total estimates for production
in all Samsung's own factories of S4 in S. Korea, India and
China have already exceeded 25 million out the factory
doors. They are right now.... on course to sell through to
consumers 10 million average and they reached that number
4days prior to estimates.

So if true... that puts them on course to sell near 100
million GS4's alone by year's end... of the over 300 Million
Smartphones they are projected to sell this year alone!!!

Apple's iPhone 5 50 Million or combination of all
smartphones won't exceed 150 million sell through this year
globally. That's the ultimate truth that you devoted Apple
fans refuse to believe!!!
