Not all software is invention in exactly the same way
that not all
mechanical goods are inventions. In fact,
99.999% of mechanical things
produced are not inventions.
Someone invented the internal combustion engine
and every
engine type produced since is not an invention, it is just
another
internal combustion engine (obviously a few
exceptions - different fuels, fuel
injection, catalytic
converters, supercharging, rotary engines - but that's
about
it). In the same way, 99.999% of software that is written
should not be
considered invention; it is just repeating
what has been done before or an
incremental evolution of it.
But occasionally someone actually invents
something new in
software. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
