Answering your questions in order:
Perhaps, but I wasn't concerned about having to appear in court. I would have
gladly stepped up to defend Linux.
I'm not concerned about anonymity all that much, but it would've been unlikely.
OTOH, my contribution went via a subsystem maintainer (this well before the
signed-off system was in place) so perhaps.
The main reason for staying silent was I didn't want to damage the defence of
Linux by doing something I didn't know I shouldn't do. I figured the safest
strategy was to wait until I was involved, then contact the lawyers. Or wait
until it was over.
Also, the amount of code is small and I wasn't sure that it would have made a
difference coming forward. I mean, if I tried to talk to TSG I don't think it
