That is,
Monsanto may own a patent on "round-up ready" crops, such as
soybeans...but I see nothing to tell me about that patent if I buy live green
Edamame (soybeans) in the grocery store, and I suspect those beans will grow if
I plant them....
When I bought a patented rose a few years back, there was a very clear medallion
on the plant letting me know it was indeed patented.
There is also the issue of the weeds growing resistant to round-up, too!!

"IIRC, Roundup Ready goes off-patent next summer.
(Monsanto is currently
claiming that they will not enforce
varietal patents for Roundup Ready crops
after the trait
goes off-patent; this was after a good deal of negative
publicity associated with the Monsanto vs. Pioneer case)
"
If this
was software them I would expect them to produce a
brand-new crop that does
exactly the same as the old one,
except it is patented. And then enthuse the
seed resellers
to quickly move to the new industry standard, as they may be
violating Microsofts er.. I mean Monsantos intellectual
property.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
