Hypocrisy at its best

Even as it offers Google Chat to its Outlook.com users, Microsoft is warning consumers that Google's search engine and other services can't be trusted. The company has spent millions of dollars on a series of critical ads that began appearing online, in print and on television about six months ago. Some of Microsoft's recent advertising attacks have been aimed at Google's Gmail, the foundation for Google Chat.

So they can spy on you at will but when Google does it that's because Google can't be trusted.
Double standards, anyone?

Outlook.com to let users chat with Gmail users via IM
Authored by: JamesK on Wednesday, May 15 2013 @ 11:44 AM EDT
Security risks from using MS products aside, I have long said the various
messaging and video chat services should be able to inter-operate. When we send
email, we don't care what provider the recipient is with, so why should we have
to with texting or video chat?

Outlook.com to let users chat with Gmail users via IM

"Microsoft says this new feature is 'one more reason to make the switch'
from Gmail to Outlook.com"

I read it as one more reason to avoid using Outlook.com.

Oh, here's irony for you, the new Google Hangouts unified messaging service
announced today is dropping XMPP as a protocol and there's a big question mark
on whether they will still allow 3rd-party apps to connect...
