Naturally as this is a tax on Fanboi's then it won't apply to Fandroids will
it?
It had better or Apple will take the french gov to the cleaners. There again,
the French are very good at the 'gallic' shrug and then proceed to totally
ignore any court ruling that goes against them. So Apple would pull out of
France totally and open up stores just over the borders in Belgium, Spain,
Germany etc to sell their goods. As France is part of the Schengen treaty there
is nowt that they could do to stop their citizens from stepping over into
Luxembourg for a little shopping. They do this already.
Aren't Governments wonderful when it comes to common sense, they don't have
any.

I believe this is true for most collection agencies, in most coutries.
I'm pretty certain it's true in the UK, what was that lawsuit in Canada about
the record companies paying a collection company (which they owned ... :-) and
the artists never got paid? I'm sure American law on collection agencies allows
it ... I would be surprised if there is any "civilised" country which
does not have that sort of system.
Which is actually another good example to show that the copyright system is
broken - if you need collection agencies, who ride rough-shod over
rights-holders, what's the point of copyright in the first place?

..because thanks to the iTunes lock in, Apple inc. is basically taking a 30% cut
of French Culture.
Further because of the corporate juggling of their accountants it is likely that
Apple pay little or no Corporation Tax or equivalent on revenues generated in
France, and thus reinvestment suffers as the money slowly dribbles away.
They have a responsibility to reinvest instead of throwing it all away on
spiteful lawsuits.
Seeing as though Apple are unlikely to want to discuss it let alone accede to
any request, taxing them seems like the best solution to me.
I'd like to see them do it in the UK too.

The way I read the articles, this doesn't seem to be the 'copyright' tax they
have been lobbying for, but in stead inspired them to use that tax to fund their
'ordinary' culture subsidies for movies, art etc.
It would be like extra taxing paintings at auctions so painters could be
subsidized so that at future auctions there will still be paintings
So on the one hand it makes some sense if you believe that the state should do
such things that it should be on tablets.
On the other hand, all producs in the EU are already taxed with about 21% (i
believe this is EU wide) - so it would make more sense to dedicate that tax
income to the purpose of sponsering ar rather then leveling a new tax.
But basically what I think it comes down to is that the frenc government has a
money shortage, and used the lobbyist's argumentation as an excuse to give
themself a higher cut of the profits. :-)
In other words, the original article falls under the politics that are outlawed
by the blog rules...
