For those of you with access to the BBC at 6pm tonight there is a program called
Countryfile where they will be showing a 'new' wheat. This will be hailed as a
scientific breakthrough but all it is is perhaps finally recognising that most
of the improvements have been in marketing not science.
I live in an area which will produce very low yields of modern barley varieties
but relatively large yields of old ones.

The real thing to worry about would be extension of patent terms.
The recent Supreme Court decision authored by Justice Kagan mentions two
patents, US 5,352,605 and RE39,247E. These two patents appear to be set to
expire in shortly ('605 this year, '247E next year).
Of course, you can probably expect Roundup to be replaced in the marketplace
about then, much as drug companies make slight alterations to prolong
monopolies...
