Actually there are non-verbal clues in written text: as someone not very good at
reading non-verbal clues in direct communication, I am fairly good at reading
emotion in written words; the way words are put together and even the choice of

And my post, which was part of the trouble, got separated from its parent which
obscured the issue.
I was responding more to the parent's mention of "American Dream of
Empire" which is most definitely real and felt by many non-Americans,
myself included. I HATE IT!!!
(That said, we English are just as bad. "If Johnny Foreigner can't
understand, SPEAK LOUDER!" :-)
