If the effect is to spoil the general joy of the occasion, I will "cut it
out."
Just a couple of observations:
1. I do not think anyone was actually trolling, here. That includes the
anonymous poster who started the thread. I think that poster was being critical
of US policy on "IP" and expressing the resentment of someone who does
not like the current policies at all, but has to suffer them. A foreigner, for
example, from a country which is being forced to kowtow to the line emanating
from Washington and does not like it very much. Of course, I really do not know
who it was. It was not me.
2. Another party had and seems to continue to have the impression that the
original poster was an anonymous troll and stood in need of education. Because
of the fact that the two of us did not read that original post the same way, at
all, and still don't read it the same way, it seems that each of us thought the
other is seriously in need of some education, too. So the whole thread kind of
went downhill from there. Again, sorry for not stopping sooner. In retrospect,
the discussion doesn't seem to have done anybody much good.
I also agree that this is not the proper occasion for such a discussion. The
only reason I am not logged in and joining in the general celebration (I do have
an account here) is that I have nothing much to add, in view of the fact that I
share the general opinions expressed and others have already said it all.
Indeed, it is something to celebrate, and indeed the work of Groklaw in keeping
the issues out there in public seems to have borne some serious fruit. I was
merely enjoying reading until I saw what I thought was a serious misapprehension
of something which looked to me quite innocent.
I also do not think that you need to worry too much for a few days about actual
trolls. It is obvious that they are left without a word to say, at least until
they get some new marching orders. The news of this decision from the CAFC must
have been totally devastating to them.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
