Ms continues to push its smear campaign against Google
Authored by: Wol on Sunday, May 12 2013 @ 03:44 PM EDT
Why don't we see ads like that over here?

Maybe it's because we've got the Advertising Standards Authority. ONE complaint,
and an entire campaign can be binned :-)

Who here remembers MS's penguin adverts? Was that the ad that compared a Z800
twin-cpu to a twin Xeon 800? It ran for ONE week in the weeklies, probably
killed stone dead by the complaints :-)

Cheers,
Wol

...was why would I want to use Office if I can't export
documents from it, should I desire, to some other platform
like Google Docs? That ad for me simply highlighted lock-in
as a reason to avoid Microsoft Office, rather than to cause
me to think less of Google Docs.

Not sure if that ad works

Berating your competition isn't a great way to make a sale. People tend to avoid companies with cheesy negative messages. Also, you are advertising your competition.

The resulting stalemate makes for a great sales pitch for Adobe PDF and LibreOffice - we work everywhere.

For corporate advertising, slick, polished, positive, and repetitive messages tend to be best. Create your own market.
