Yes. And that's a good thing. Google needs to keep innovating or someone else
will.

That was the point of my "If".
I don't believe Google is or ever will be big enough in those markets
to make any significant difference. The article suggests Google will
make a killing from the popularity of Android. The ones who will
make the killing will be the local Uncle Sims, who sell the local
pre-pay cards and do the screen replacements.

My eighteen month old Android phone has five vendor supplied apps
for purchasing goods or services none of which have anything to do
with Google. Some countries local laws restrict commerce via Google.
