It's not a typo if you can't spell it; it's a misspelling.

Add to that - if programmers make spelling mistakes, compilers usually barf ...

And if it's a native English speaker, I usually don't bother to read badly
written/spelt posts. It actually HURTS to trip over wrongly spelt words, and the
article is rarely worth the pain.

(That said, I hate it when people go on about "correct" and
"wrong" spelling - there is a STANDARD spelling for good reason, but
what's wrong about using a spelling that's been around for hundreds of years,
when the "correct" spelling is much younger ...)

Cheers,
Wol

Who is in the best position to say for sure what it is?
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, May 01 2013 @ 05:30 PM EDT

Is it you - someone who doesn't know my mind the way I do. Or at least I assume you don't have mind reading capabilities.

Or is it me? The person in the best position to judge whether what I did was an actual spelling mistake or a typo?

I've got a comment I entered today with the subject:

One Reason why the Supreme Court Should Go Againt Myriad
Of course, instead of "Againt" - I meant "Against".

Now in this case, since "againt" isn't actually a word - it's an obvious typo. But in the case of "forfeit" where the typo happened to be in dropping the e (rather then the obvious s in against):

    it could be a misspelling
or
    it could be a tpo
I just caught myself in a typo on typo. But I put the tpyo back (oops, there I go agai) (drat, and again) to show just how often my topos (gonna leave that one in too) are.

As I said: I'm human. And I err. And I will make a reasonable effort to catch my typos and correct them. And as you can see from the number of typos in this post compared to my normal level of literacy: I even err when I'm proof reading and don't always catch everything.

Where I do actually make honest spelling mistakes and someone catches me t... on those (there's another of those typos where I was thinking one thing and the fingers hit something else) then I will correct my spelling.

In all instances, If (another typo, i shouldn't be capativl... capitilized there) I'm unsure of the spelling, I look it up.

So please don't try to know my mind better then me and accept that what was cauh... caught was a spelling error and not a typo.

And if you doubt my spelling ability and error rare... rate vs my typo r ... error rate, then I suggest you simply count how many actual spelling errors I have in this post as opposed to the tpy... typos that I deliberately choose not to correct.
