That's a different problem
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, April 30 2013 @ 04:17 PM EDT

Wifi definition:

wireless local area network: a local area network that uses high frequency radio signals to transmit and receive data
The first issue with that problem: Radio is quite well known and technology to build radio signals should fail patentability in most cases. I say most cases, but it's conceivable radio technology is so mature any "new" build should fail patentability period unless someone's managed to figure out how to get subspace communications going (if that's "radio" waves).

Additionally, wide/local area networks are computer technology which is easily older then 20 years. So any patents on that technology should be well expired.

Telecommunications via radio is decades old technology as well. So patents on that technology should be expired.

To apply the concepts: radio communications + computer network should be considered as obvious. So no patent should apply.

The next issue with that problem: the rest of wifi is in language interpretation - software. And software should be recognized as abstract only and not patentable subject matter.

As a result, if you accept I have shown why wifi should not be patentable subject matter then you must logically accept that wifi is mature even at the point of "creation" because all the technology involved is well known and mature.

So an immediate standard on it should - by its very definition and nature - be new, useful and free of patents.
