Just a thought (so few to sort through):). What if RAND or FRAND was appied to
the **IA? Instead of $100K judgements the price would be a portion of the cost
of the product. Just a random thought, probably couldn't go that direction.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

The former British state telecom monopoly is going after smaller SIP operators
over US patents covering parts of this VoIP standard. Some comments are asking
why some of the patents appear to have been applied for later than the standard
that supposedly infringes them. Article [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

The H So, now project management is one more
area where you no longer need Windoze. The developers of Project
Open, an open source enterprise project management package, have announced they
are releasing version 4.0 of the software application after extensive testing of
the release candidate. Among the new interoperability features of the package is
the ability for projects to be imported into Project Open from Microsoft
Project, edited in Project Open and then exported back to Microsoft Project. The
software now has a configuration wizard to simplify integrating Active Directory
and SharePoint, which will allow projects to store their documents on a
SharePoint server. But why bother integrating with Swarepoint? Not
that I should really complain of course, obviously this is a great piece of
work, and hopefully will become very popular.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

One of the big problems I see with Patents is that there are those Patent
Lawyers willing to argue the four corners of the patent well beyond what the
USPTO has granted a patent on.
In other words: they're willing to abuse
their intellectual property grant and claim a grant on a much bigger piece then
they were actually granted.
It's a bit lengthy, so I'll attach my
proposed solution to this post.

The story is on
Mashable. Also reported in the Wall Street Journal.
This may be a
disaster for folks who want to see rapid growth of Google Fiber, or any
improvement in the broadband situation. In addition to wireless spectrum,
television and cable, the FCC regulates broadband Internet. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

"VoIP-to-PSTN termination providers and SIP vendors will be watching their
inboxes for a lawyer's letter from BT, which has kicked off a taxing licensing
program levying a fee on the industry, based on a list of 99 patents .. The
British incumbent is offering to allow third parties to use the Session
Initiation Protocol under a license agreement published here" link [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
