You should see the alternatives
Authored by: Anonymous on Saturday, April 27 2013 @ 02:24 AM EDT
At least on alfalfa, the alternatives are extremely toxic...as in, full PPE
required, Danger level (risk of lethal poisoning from normal exposure)
herbicides.

RoundupĀ® link to autism, cancer and parkinsonism ..
Authored by: RichardB on Saturday, April 27 2013 @ 05:23 PM EDT
Well, I'm still trying to work out if the article is a spoof. Obscure journal,
one of the authors is from the AI lab at MIT? The other is an 'independent
scientist', which could easily be a polite way of saying 'unemployable
crackpot'. And huge overblown claims, that somehow everyone is ignoring...

Then you find autism, and Chrohn's disease coming up, and (oh my!) vaccines.
Well, I've seen enough. Into the crank file it goes.

I can believe that....

I also wouldn't be surprised to find out in a few more decades that GM seeds have brought us to a point of some kind of harm too.

That's the funny thing with humans playing with their chemistry sets:

human science hasn't advanced far enough we can know all the pros and cons in the short term before they become permanent harms
As has been said by some - who I suspect are proponents for genetic modification:
We just don't know because it's too complex... so we learn with trial and error!
Of course, that doesn't mean we shouldn't play. Playing with Science is a blast! But it does mean we should exercise extreme caution before putting it into our food supply let alone making it a regular replacement.

Personally: I'll stick with the bugs and bruises on the food I eat.

Glyphosphate? Is it any good?
Authored by: complex_number on Sunday, April 28 2013 @ 12:41 PM EDT
I sprayed some rampant spearmint in my garden a few weeks ago. It just laughed
at it and carried on growing.
Wither the RoundUp main active ingredient is not as effective as the ad men
would make up believe OR plants are developing a resistance to it.

Sadly, I think it is the latter and therefore we should be very worried.

there are all these GM crops that are Roundup Tolerant. They have been
enginnered to do something that would normally take nature decades to acheive.
This is fundamentally wrong. We should stop all GM deployment now.

Thanksfully the major Supermarkets in the UK won't stock GM food. The public do
not want it. how different this is to the US where you have little choice in the
matter.

Ubuntu & 'apt-get' are not the answer to Life, The Universe & Everything which
is of course, "42" or is it 1.618?
