Keeping in mind that in most instances, the sale price of a car, van, or pickup
truck is negotiated, the MSRP is the "list price", the price that the
dealership would be doing cartwheels if they can get you to pay because it's got
so much profit built in.
Consequently, MSRP is generally a fantasy that (with rare exceptions) only
chumps end up paying. Serious car shoppers figure out how much the car actually
cost the dealer (so-called "invoice price" is close-ish to this in
many instances) and try to buy at a fair mark-up from that price.
In rare cases, there will be enough disconnect between supply and demand for a
vehicle that the dealer can dictate something closer to MSRP in all cases, but
