Android Licensing: "Getting a piece of what competitors are doing is a nice thing" for Microsoft

Quote:
"Getting a piece of what competitors are doing is a nice
thing" for Microsoft, said William Stofega, analyst at data
tracker IDC. Exactly how much of a "nice thing" is difficult
to determine because companies usually don't reveal such
terms, but analysts' estimates put it at hundreds of
millions of dollars every quarter.

Android Licensing Pacts Ring Up Microsoft's Phone Revenue
Authored by: albert on Sunday, May 05 2013 @ 12:04 PM EDT
Lots of 'analysis', but who really knows what licensing fees are being paid? I
don't have any faith in 'analysts' opinions. Unless they have inside
information, they are guessing. We all work with the same dataset.

As for SEC reports, ask your accountant to explain some of the tricks
corporations can legally use to make things look better.

Android phone manufacturers are making TONS of money, regardless of licensing
fees. This is what sticks in MS craw. Does it suck that they have to pay fees?
Yes. But until there's a patent showdown, we wait impatiently.

I liked my Samsung Galaxy S
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, May 06 2013 @ 09:50 AM EDT

But I guess so long as Samsung is in the patent agreement with MS - there won't be a Samsung phone in my future.

Sorry Samsung - it's nothing against you. I simply don't like giving my money to Microsoft.

Motorola it is.
