I don't think RMS has ever really supported the BSD license
and if you think otherwise I think you need to provide
references.

and theirs alone (or so it seems)

core of OS-X is open-source

The MAC OS X gui is proprietary closed source, but I don't think there is much
BSD in it. The core operating system, what's under the GUI, what grew from BSD
and other sources, is known as Darwin and is in fact open source. You can
download it, compile it, and run it on other computers. But you don't get the
Apple gui.
