Popehat's take

See the most recent article here. "It was thousands of citizen photographs that helped break this case, and it was a citizen who found the second bomber. Yes, that's right – it wasn't until the stupid lock-down was ended that a citizen found the second murderer"

Reverse Martial Law
Authored by: Anonymous on Saturday, April 20 2013 @ 02:18 PM EDT
I don't yet conclude that the teamwork between police and
civilians was a bad thing. Yes, it is scary. This time, the
suspects were demonstrably evil.

Perhaps Boston 2013 will be a poster child that encourages the
public to cede control to our police. Or maybe not.

Boston Bomber Captured - World Cheers - Many Cherished Rights Suspended - What Price Freedom?
Authored by: Anonymous on Saturday, April 20 2013 @ 06:06 PM EDT
I cannot find the words to adequately express my disagreement with this thread.
No rights are absolute.

You may, with perfect 20/20 hindsight, say that the area restricted was too
large, but when there is a firefight with over 200 shots exchanged and
improvised bombs thrown, what part of "protect the public" do you not
understand?

Which law does he get tried under?
Authored by: Anonymous on Saturday, April 20 2013 @ 08:02 PM EDT
Massachusetts law or United States law? I'm not an American
lawyer, not even American (I'm Canadian). The difference is
that MA law has (since 1984) no death penalty but US law
does. But all the dead are MA residents (the Chinese
student might be considered a non-resident). The bombers
are MA residents. No state lines were fled across. The
only federal laws I see might have been broken are
transporting bomb-making materials across state lines, or
something like that.

I'm guessing he will spend the rest of his life in prison,
and that might be 70 or 80 years.

Boston Bomber ... weird ...
Authored by: Anonymous on Saturday, April 20 2013 @ 09:29 PM EDT
The hysteria over the Boston bombings is amazing. If instead of two crude bombs
and limited victims (3 dead ~100 seriously injured) the two people involved had
fired large magazine assault rifles from raised vantage points, or driven two
humvees into the crowd, there would have been many more casualties, and little
of the response. One humvee, two occupants, and swearing the mat depressed the
pedal and the driver panicked would have lasted a few hours on the news.

..another swatting? You're flunking the 'Cui bono?' test.
Authored by: arnt on Saturday, April 20 2013 @ 10:29 PM EDT
..in March I learned a new word, SWATting:
ht tp://krebsonsecurity.com/2013/03/the-world-has-no-room-for-cowards/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatti ng

..these 2 suspects were set up nicely, first the foreign "tip" to the FBI to push them out of society and into a "radical Islamist" or "al-Qaida" style Rinnan gang reputation (http://en.wikipedia.org /wiki/Sonderab teilung_Lola), then the terror bombs, and finally the US Lynch Mob shutting down US Law.

..imagine you yourself getting blamed for terrorism. You have seen what happened to WikiLeaks and what happens to whistle blowers in the US.
Would you surrender to such a Lynch Mob?

..there is a _massive_ middle road between your computer game style Untermensch shooter carnages and the Norwegian police "shut down and secure" procrastination at the Utøya massacre that appeared to claim the entire Arab Spring supporter (9% minority?) of the AUF.

..2 years ago, this Arab Spring supporter minority was was very unpopular in the Stoltenberg cabinet, because they _very_ vocal on why we Norwegians should ditch the peace negotiater prestige, and instead support the Arab Spring rallies in Syria, Libya, Egypt, Yemen etc where people were demanding democracy and freedom from dictatorships.
Common Decency.

..I have _not_ heard from anyone of these Arab Spring supporters since the Utøya massacre.
I suspect similar tricks are being played on you around the Boston bombs, like with "9/11."

..taking a step back and meeting your own standards on common decency and common sense, ought to help you pass the 'Cui bono?' test...

Lesson one — it isn’t the Czech Republic:
Authored by: JamesK on Sunday, April 21 2013 @ 09:06 AM EDT
Bombing suspects turn U.S. attention on little-known Chechnya

A number of comments by Americans on social media mistaking the Czech Republic for the country of origin of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects— ethnic Chechen brothers — prompted the Czech ambassador to the United States to act.

The one that died - maybe they should look for brain trama, due to boxing?
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, April 21 2013 @ 03:35 PM EDT
The one that died - maybe they should look for brain trama, due to boxing?

I had a good friend, long time childhood friend, who suddenly started acting
strange, agressive, disagreeable, etc. One day he drove his motorcycle off the
road into a field (accidently), and since he raced them his family thought that
was a bit strange. Went to see a doctor, and guess what? Doctor thought he was
fine, and gave him a script for some pills. His family demanded MORE, the
doctor, really not wanting to do more relented, and in a day or so, my friend
was able to get a CAT scan. BIG OLD BRAIN TUMOR... pressing up on areas of his
brain, causing him to be a different person. It was the fast moving kind, so
after a few operations, and a year to live, he passed away.

I have heard of some fellows who were boxers, suffering brain trama, and they
had a change in their personalities.

They really should take a close look and see if the older brother that died, had
any deformity, or problems with his brain? Just that they should take a look
see. Just to cover all the bases. The younger brother, all reports point to
him being a follower (might have been influenced by the older brother).

PS - the "risk" judgement area of the brain, does not develop in
humans until about the age of 25. So, all who are younger, will DO STUPID
STUFF, just because. No excuse, but we all need to try to understand more than
we do.
